5 Recipes to Help You Celebrate National Margarita Day

Cheers National Margarita Day on Feb. 22 with these fun recipes from some of Mexico’s top resorts.

Wheatgrass Margarita from Grand Velas Los Cabos

  • 1 Wheatgrass shot (tsp. of wheatgrass powder diluted in 2 oz. of water)
  • 1.5 oz. Don Julio blanco or other white tequila
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 1 oz. Lemon juice
  • .5 oz. Agave honey

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Shake and pour over ice.

Avocado Margarita from Occidental Cozumel

  • 3.5 oz. Ice cubes
  • 3.5 oz. Tequila reposado 100 años
  • 1 Avocado, peeled, pitted and chopped
  • 2.5 oz. Triple-sec or Cointreau
  • 1 oz. Fresh lime juice
  • .5 oz. Simple syrup
  • Lime wedge
  • Pinch of peppermint
  • Salt or chili-lime seasoning (for glass rim)

Directions: Rim the glass with lime, salt and chili. Pour all ingredients into a blending cup and blend. Pour mix into serving rimmed glass and garnish with lime and a slice of avocado.

Mangorita from Allegro Cozumel

  • 3.5 oz. Tequila blanco
  • 2.5 oz. Triple-sec or Cointreau
  • 3.5 oz. Ice cubes
  • 3.5 oz. Fresh mango pitted and cut in cubes
  • 3 oz. agave syrup
  • .4 oz. Tajin
  • 1 oz. Fresh squeezed lime juice

Directions: Rim cup with lemon juice and .2 oz of the tajin. Pour the remaining ingredients into a blending coup and blend. Serve into rimmed glass and garnish with a slice of mango or lime. (pictured)

Gondo Margarita from Barceló Puerto Vallarta

  • Gondo fruit (a local berry that grows primarily in the mountains of Puerto Vallarta)
  • Salt and chili powder
  • 1.5 oz. Cointreau
  • 1.5 oz. Silver tequila
  • 1 oz. Orange juice
  • Ice

Directions: Mix the salt with the chili powder and rim a chilled glass with this mixture. Pour the gondo fruit into the cocktail glass and the rest of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake well and strain into the prepared glass with or without fresh ice. Garnish with a strawberry and enjoy!

Passion Brize from Royal Hideaway Playacar

  • 1.5 oz. Mezcal
  • 1.5 oz. Passion fruit juice
  • .5 Lime
  • 1 tbsp. Sugar
  • .5 oz. Freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Starfruit for garnish
  • Ice

Directions: Grab a cocktail shaker and fill it with passion fruit juice, lime, sugar and orange juice and shake. Add mezcal and ice and pour into a mson jar glass with glitter rim. Garnish with a star fruit slice.
