Modern Aquarium Set to Open in Puerto Vallarta

In Play, Puerto Vallarta by Suzanne Koch

The mystical underwater world of marine life will soon be the focus of a new attraction coming to Puerto Vallarta. A modern aquarium—and Mexico’s largest—is slated to open in August 2018 and will be a big part of the expansion of Puerto Vallarta’s maritime terminal.

Visitors will be able to wander through glass tunnels and peer up at the aquarium’s more than 300 species. The new attraction will be much larger than Mexico City’s aquarium that currently showcases more than 230 species. In addition to building the aquarium, the terminal will also add Passenger Terminal No. 3 that will include a tourist service area and a Tequila museum that will be located inside a Mexican hacienda.

Construction on the project is set to begin in August of this year and will cost more than $10 million. The company that will be leading the project is Blau Life who specializes in large projects like these and is responsible for the Mexico City aquarium.

“A scenario of this quality, one that combines culture and ecological awareness, will surely increase tourism to this destination. It will not only make it more attractive to the more than 330,000 cruise passengers who visit us every year, but also to domestic and foreign visitors,” says Augustin Alvarez, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust.
