Guests of Fairmont Mayakoba have a chance to dive into the Mesoamerican Reef while helping save it at the same time. The reef, which is the second largest in the world, is located in front of Mayakoba and is one of the restoration sites of Oceanus, an organization aiming to revive the coral reef. In partnership with Oceanus, the resort has planted more than 1,500 corals over five years, with 80-percent surviving and still thriving. Guests are able to see the process up close by hopping aboard a guided catamaran to snorkel the reef. Moreover, a portion of the proceeds from the activity is donated to Oceanus.
