Adventure

If wildlife and once-in-a-lifetime experiences are what you’re looking for, head to nearby Isla Mujeres where travelers can swim with whale sharks. Visit during whale shark season which officially begins around mid-May and lasts until September. For the ultimate experience, the 10th annual Whale Shark Festival is taking place July 20-23, 2017 in Isla Mujeres and will showcase the achievements, traditions and environmental splendor of the island.

Romance

Cozy up to your special someone on Isla Holbox, a laidback island northwest of Cancun that’s known for its unique boutique hotels, locally-inspired gastronomy, pristine beaches and colorful, lazy hammocks.

Adults

For those traveling without the younger ones, adults-only Temptation Cancun Resort is opening its doors in August to reveal its upgraded concept and renovation, all thanks to world-renowned designer Karim Rashid. Along with 430 newly designed rooms and suites, and restaurants and bars, Rashid will showcase a beautiful multicolor facade among many other eye-catching upgrades.

Families

Cancun is also a haven for children. Aside from beautiful beaches and resorts’ kid’s clubs, the destination offers aquatic and cultural activities to wow the youngsters. Try Crococun Zoo in Puerto Morelos, Tortugranja in Isla Mujeres, nearby archaeological sites or Xcaret Park’s latest adventure, “World of Children.”

Nature

Head to Isla Contoy for an abundance of nature-focused activities including sports fishing, snorkeling at Ixlache Reef and birdwatching. The island is home to many tropical marine birds with approximately 152 species identified. Visitors can also get a peek at sea turtles as nesting season on the island runs from April to October.

Culture

Perhaps the most unique activity to enjoy in Cancun is exploring the destination’s culture through the wide array of archaeological sites. Popular sites include famous Chichen Itza along with El Meco and El Rey ruins. Maya Museum is a top choice for those looking to learn about the ancient civilization that once populated the area while Cancun’s Underwater Musuem of Art (MUSA) offers a more thrilling adventure. MUSA is the world’s largest underwater museum and features hundreds of statues that also double as a home for fish and other underwater organisms.
