If professionalism and creativity came together to give life to a person it would be Fernando; his natural talent to understand what the bride and groom want, conceptualize it and turn it into truly impressive events is his thing. We spoke with the creator of GUTIERREZ F. STUDIO about his passions, his work, and his fascination for Mexico, and we love him even more after this interview.
Can you tell us about you and your passions in life?
I’m passionate about creating experiences that transcend in time, even as a child I was determined to make the most memorable adventure out of every activity. I’ll always make sure I can convey and evoke emotions through spaces and environments in which sight, smell, taste and sound are aligned.
Hospitality has always played a very important role in my life both personally and professionally, and along with my interest in art, food, design and culture, I’ve found the perfect union of my passions in life working together with my professional career.
How did you get to create GUTIERREZ F. STUDIO?
I always wanted to work on something that would make others happy, and constantly ask myself how could I combine it with my passion. Hosting personal social events was always something that I really enjoyed doing; I also grew up close to the restaurant industry and had the opportunity to understand the importance of good hospitality.
When my sister got engaged she asked me to help her with her wedding, and that was my very first contact with the industry, making me realize I could make one of the most important days of a couple’s life my everyday responsibility.
What is the thing you enjoy the most from your job?
When the couple sees the final product, that is definitely one of the moments that I enjoy the most in my job, when they come in and see the work of so many months materialized. When my team and I see in their faces that we have surpassed what they expected, when I remember that I am doing the right thing, because I always wanted to work on something that would make others happy.
There is no couple´s entrance in which I don´t get goosebumps. Each project is a different story and experience, but they all have something in common: the beginning of a new path, the desire to start, to grow, to share, to trust, to learn, to be happy and above all, to believe in love – which is the coolest thing in life.
Which is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?
Every wedding is a challenge, and I like to overcome it by exceeding the expectations of the bride and groom. I think this is what really matters, being responsible for one of the most important days of their lives, but I also think that building the best team has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced; it’s hard to find people who are passionate on their own. Knowing how to empower each one of the team members in their area in order to build the GUTIERREZ F. STUDIO family has been the most challenging, and yet most satisfying experience.
What do you like the most from being Mexican?
I love being Mexican for many reasons: we have a gigantic culture of many centuries and history. The land and the people are of great beauty. We are very loving people and we have very strong emotional ties with family and friends.
Who I’ve grown up to be was very much influenced by my Mexican family. They have given me so much and instilled such a love and pride for our heritage that I couldn’t be me without them.
Which are your favorite wedding venues in Mexico?
Haciendas or old buildings are undoubtedly one of my favorite places to hold events in Mexico since they represent much more than a venue; they have history and something to tell on its own. For me, being able to mix the essence of a venue with the essence of my clients makes the project something extraordinary.
My personal favorites are the ones in Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende, Oaxaca and Merida.
