The 14th edition of Zona Maco, the biggest contemporary art fair in Latin America is happening in Mexico City Feb. 8-12. Since the beginning it has been generating cultural awareness and has brought attention to one of the largest cities in the world by bringing together groups of people interested in contemporary art. The exhibition is made up of five sections: emerging art, Mexican art, modern art, design and general art. Guests are able to enjoy more than one hundred galleries, publishers and cultural institutions. The selections are all by recognized gallerists, curators and specialists in each category.
Zona Maco is located at the Centro Banamex in Mexico City and throughout these five days, collectors, specialists and art galleries from all over the world can be found inside. The fair was founded by Zélika García in 2002 and since then it has been consolidated into one of the strongest and most solid platforms for the sale, exhibition and promotion of international contemporary art in this region.
This year, Zona Maco has created a project in conjunction with the Museo de la Ciudad de Mexico and public spaces as the Zócalo. Here you can find the work of Lawrence Heiner, one of the precursors of conceptual art of the 60’s. Other spaces that are more active this weekend are the National Institute of Fine Arts, the Museo Tamayo, Carrillo Gil, Public Hall Siqueiros and the Laboratorio Arte Alameda, among many others. The galleries that are found as part of Zona Maco are Mexican Art Gallery, Kurimanzutto, Projects Monclova, Patricia Conde Gallery, Parallel Project, Luis Adelantado, Fifi Projects, and Arredondo/AROZARENA.
It is a great time to get to know the proposals of each gallery, the emerging artists and to engage in the talks and dialogs that are generated by them.
