Mexico is built by history, culture and a vast amount of buildings that are witnesses of time. A clear example of these buildings are the antique villas or haciendas that are built and preserved since many years ago; they feel the time and history pass by and protect the owners which have inhabited the spaces and have become part of the landscape and of life itself. Hacienda Niop in Champoton, Campeche is an outstanding example. The rescue and intervention project of this architectural gem ran under the work of R79 Architecture and AS Architecture. The project began in 2014 and since then it has been recognized with the Silver Medal I in the Biennial of Young Architects in 2015, the Silver Medal XI in the Biennial of Architecture of Yucatan in 2015 and the Gold Medal II in the Biennial of the Southeastern Regional Architecture 2016.
The architects mentioned that the presence of different styles of architecture, time and constant changes of use of this space create the Hacienda Niop, a hacienda with a really particular schematic and operation in the region of the Mexican Southeast. They decided to create a boutique hotel in the place that was used as livestock and textiles. A space to relax, to forget the everyday stress, to immerse yourself in the beautiful landscapes and sunsets of the south of the country. This was achieved by means of contemporary architectural interventions, linking the past with the present to offer a wonderful experience.
