One of the most anticipated weekends in grand Mexico City is almost here, Gallery Weekend Mexico. This city doesn’t get compared to Berlin for just any reason; like the creative German city, Mexico City’s art world is booming through independent galleries, art exhibitions and recognized museums. Did you know that Mexico City has more museums than most cities in the world?
This weekend, 34 galleries open their doors to go through the exhibitions and enjoy the city. From September 23–25, all art- and design-lovers will be present for this magnificent event. On Friday, at 6:00 p.m., the stunning and always fun openings throughout the different art spaces begin and last until 9:00 p.m. when the best art parties are usually organized to enjoy. On Saturday and Sunday, the program is the same: Art Talks at Rufino Tamayo Museum, followed by Paperworks in the same location. This will be the second edition of Paperworks, thanks to Código and Aura, in support of Arca México. During Paperworks guests will have the opportunity to meet national and international publishers active in the production of art and artist books. The purpose is to open a dialog around art and publications. These two days will be followed by visits to the 40 exhibitions in different points throughout the city.
Gallery Weekend Mexico is a perfectly organized event; with a total of 34 galleries spread around the city, the event offers special transportation to take you from one gallery to another, allowing guests to fully enjoy the city and its creative side. Guests are encouraged to note, feel and talk about the work of the 74 artists who are featured for the 2016 event. You’ll be happy to find art for everyone from Young Collectors, including works from Andy Warhol –which most of the pop art-lovers know.
This event provides the unique opportunity to see original pieces and to join in discussions with profound artists about the world of art. Our recommendation is to enjoy one of the best events in Mexico City, and to enjoy some of the best art.
