The Tallera is a public space dedicated to contemporary art and it is part of the Project Siqueiros family. The history of Project Siqueiros was born with the death of the Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros. Both the Public Art Room located at Polanco in Mexico City, as well as the House-Studio of the Artist: La Tallera located in Cuernavaca, Morelos, were inheritances for the Mexican people, along with an important collection of works by the same artist, including graphic work, murals, studies, and the personal file and library of D.A. Siqueiros.
Thus, days before his death he expressed the wish that these spaces have the order to preserve and disseminate their works and ideas and that they should be dedicated to the conservation, rescue, maintenance, analysis, experimentation and dissemination for the future “Public Art,” which today happens to be the Contemporary Art.
Respecting the last wish of the artist, what was one day his wonderful industrial workshop is now “The Tallera“, as he called her. It is a space with modern and contemporary art which keeps permanent exhibition murals: “Subjective Composition Strokes,” “Traces of a Pyramidal Composition” and “Poliangular Room” of David Alfaro Siqueiros, all of them completely jaw-dropping! It also exhibits temporary exhibitions of new Mexican artists as well as renamed contemporary exhibitions, workshops, conferences, guided tours, museums nights, Tuesday of cinema and has the nature of dialog and cultural interaction.
The space was recently remodeled by the great Mexican Architect Frida Escobedo, changing the angle of the murals in the facade, and refined architectural details in the interior. Achieving the adequate spaces for the workshops, conferences and exhibitions within the space. While visiting the state of Cuernavaca, La Tallera is one of the spaces that must be visited. Even driving from another nearby city for a small trip is worth it.
