Following the announcement of nonstop New York to Tulum service, two of Canada’s most vibrant cities are joining Tulum’s growing network of direct connections.
Tulum’s international connections continue to expand.
Earlier this week, it was announced that New York/Newark will connect nonstop to Tulum beginning this December. Now, attention turns north as Toronto and Montréal reconnect directly with Tulum for the winter season.
Beginning in late October 2026, nonstop flights will link Tulum International Airport with both Canadian cities, bringing travelers from two of Canada’s most dynamic and cosmopolitan markets directly to the Mexican Caribbean.
Toronto brings its international energy, design, food and business culture. Montréal brings an unmistakable mix of fashion, art, architecture and European influence. Both cities have long shared a natural connection with Mexico, and now Tulum becomes considerably easier to reach.
But the expanding flight network arrives at an important moment in Tulum’s evolution.
“Having lived in Tulum since 2009 and raised my two boys here, I’ve watched the community evolve through many different chapters,” says Joanne Salt, Founder and Chief Designer of JOSA Tulum and longtime Tulum resident.
“What’s happening now is particularly exciting. There’s an incredible international community putting down roots here. Young, creative, entrepreneurial people are choosing Tulum not for the festival scene, but for a different quality of life. That era is largely behind us.
“Tulum is becoming a small, incredibly unique international city. People still want the freedom and slightly off-grid spirit that brought many of us here, but they also want to raise families, build businesses, have great restaurants, good schools, wellness, culture and the conveniences that make a real community work.
“That evolution, combined with easier direct access from cities like Toronto, Montréal and now New York, is creating a very different Tulum, and I think a much more interesting one.”
For Deelum Concepts Founder Michael Dee, the expanding flight network also represents an important shift for Tulum’s international accessibility.
“First New York, now Toronto and Montréal. Tulum is becoming directly connected to some of North America’s most important markets,” says Dee. “That accessibility changes the conversation. It makes Tulum easier to visit, easier to own a home here, and increasingly compelling for international investment.”
As direct connections continue to expand across the United States, Canada and beyond, Tulum is entering a new chapter. One defined not only by who comes for a week, but increasingly by who chooses to stay, build, create and call it home.
