Valle de Bravo is a magical place two hours outside Mexico City. It has been a favorite of many Mexico City citizens for spending the weekends in peace and tranquility in the forest, the lake and the colorful center of the village, while eating at the delicious restaurants and breathing the fresh air of this site. In addition to having an endless array of activities such as biking, motorbiking, horseback riding, hiking, bonfires under the light of the moon and stars, Valle de Bravo is a place where many activities happen for people of all ages: from summer courses to yoga and meditation retreats.
It is incredible to discover architecture and design in this country and in this case we are talking about the Great Stupa for Peace. It is 25 minutes away from Avandaro and you can get here by driving through a dirt road and then walking 15 minutes between the forest and the river, the perfect way to prepare the body to enjoy this beautiful space.
This is the first Buddhist Stupa in Mexico in addition to being the largest in the West Hemisphere. The height of this wonderful architectural work is 36 meters tall and symbolizes Buddha’s enlightenment. It is categorized under the type “Chian Chiub Chorten” and is a funeral monument; a representation of the inert body merged with a state of enlightenment. It is a sacred place of pilgrimage that can be visited by people who are Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. It is a space that without a doubt will surprise anyone who visits it because of its dimension, by the illumination and most of all for the surprise that awaits inside: for the peace that you feel simply be being present in this sacred space.
