Cancun is set to see another year full of exciting expansions, increased visitors and thrilling events. With the recent lift on flight restrictions in August 2016, the Cancun International Airport has seen a rise in flights from the U.S. with most visitors arriving from Texas. In fact, December 2016 saw a 13.9% increase from December 2015 with a total of 2,012,362 visitors for the year. The airport is also currently working on adding a new terminal, slated to open in 2017, allowing even more visitors to pass through. In addition to the new terminal, an integrated 126-room hotel is also scheduled for completion in 2018 at the airport.
With so many visitors and new features, it’s no surprise that Cancun was recently named by AAA as one of the top international destinations with the most notable increases in travel bookings for 2016. Cancun was also featured as one of the top contestants in CheapOair’s “International Destinations on the Rise in 2017” list.
